safety management at Liverpool Fireworks

Huge crowds watched the Bonfire Night fireworks display at Liverpool’s Pier Head, with 40,000 people seeing the annual spectacular. Symphotech was asked to take care of the safety management side of the event, while making recommendations for future years.

In the build-up to the event, several multi-agency meetings took place involving Symphotech, the City authorities and other stakeholders. These looked at issues raised in the previous year relating to traffic and crowd management and the scale of the fireworks.

Following these meetings and a site visit, Symphotech introduced a low level barrier and fence system to manage entry for the crowds. A lead safety office and two deputies from Symphotech arrived in Liverpool the day before the fireworks to monitor the site construction and check weather conditions.

On the night, the event passed without significant incident despite the large numbers attending.
